It has never occurred to me how horrifying the corporate world could be until today. A levels is history now, and the present lies fun, commitments and foresight. In response to commitments, truck loads of graduates are probably checking out stores and firms for part-time jobs, perhaps to do constructive work while wasting time away, or simply to get out of the house to avoid persistent naggers.
A news advertisment by a renowned firm such as accounting firm KPMG could possibly invite stacks of resumes submission.
I was thrown off, practically when i heard how resumes were selected from that humongous pile.
Disclaimer: Not stating that is how KPMG sieves through resumes, i mean large firms akin to them.
No interviewer in the right mind would bother looking through all that chuck of words. Now, we all have learnt random sampling haven't we? It's certainly applicable in real life (now i know). Toss those sheets around, grab a pile and throw them into the dustbin. Afterwhich, we can look through those leftovers. Gosh what's the rationale behind writing outstanding resumes, when not a speck of dust is given time to land on the sheet? Yet, the firm believes in not hiring unlucky people. Seriously, who ever said life was fair?
